Teaching
Chemistry of Nanomaterials
At Northwestern University, I participated in the Searle Center's Teaching Certificate Program, which is a year-long course that offers students the opportunity to learn more about pedagogy, craft a teaching statement, and develop their own course. Through this program, I developed a Chemistry for Nanomaterials course, which aims to introduce upper-level undergraduates and graduate students to the synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles (primarily with optoelectronic applications in mind). You can view the result of my course design project here:

Laboratory Courses
It was such a blessing for me to have a lab TA who was so enthusiastic about chemistry and willing to explain techniques and concepts to me in a different, more approachable way, which allowed me to understand the material better.
At Northwestern University, I have been a teaching assistant for the following courses:
- CHEM 350-2: Advanced Laboratory Course (Atomic Spectroscopy)
- CHEM 123: General Physical Chemistry Laboratory
- CHEM 182: Accelerated General Physical Chemistry Laboratory
- CHEM 181: Accelerated General Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory
This follows my work as a teaching assistant for the following course at Tufts University:
- CHEM 1: Chemistry Fundamentals Laboratory
In the spring of 2020, I also helped convert two experiments in CHEM 220 - Northwestern's instrumental analysis course - into online activities that students could complete remotely (due to COVID-19).
Tutoring
At Tufts University, I was part of Tufts Literacy Corps, a work-study organization that provides free tutoring to K-9 students in the Medford and Somerville areas. Throughout my four years with TLC, I worked with both elementary school and middle school children in one-on-one tutoring settings to improve their math skills, and often more importantly, to reduce their math anxiety.
I joined my freshman year as a tutor at the Columbus School in Medford, MA. Throughout the next two years, I was the site coordinator for the school, organizing the group of tutors that visited the school twice a week to work with one to two students. After returning from study abroad my junior year, I spent my remaining time with TLC as one of the two middle school on-campus math tutoring coordinators. I worked with 50+ tutors and 30+ families to match students and tutors and provide training to tutors through biweekly meetings. |
